DARKNESS
Darkness stole across the land,
in defiance of light.
It continued on its flight,
to torment the people, and take them as slaves.

Darkness came in many forms:
as sickness and diseases,
plagues to cripple the people,
to impale them on the pole of poverty,
of despair.

Darkness was brought by man,
blinded by the folly of greed,
the despicable weakness of the flesh.
This darkness is of man,
that specimen of mortal sand.

Look what you’ve done,
Oh man!
With your corruption and wickedness,
you’ve brought a curse upon your land,
and your acts have invited wickedness.



FRESH
Like the seduction of a succulent orange,
the kiss of the morning sun.
Like the intoxicating aroma
of newly cooked fish soup,
you’re fresh.

Fresh,
like newly born words,
newly formed thoughts,
and ideas
of paradise and a world beyond.

Like the shy morning dew,
the exuberant rain,
the care free teasing of the rambunctious palm wine,
you’re fresh.

You are fresh,
and fresh is you,
with no one fairer than you.
I want you,
‘cos I know you’ll make me new.
