POETRY

THEATER OF THE ABSURD

When the puppet,
controls the puppeteer,
and the pied piper,
dances to the tune of the rats.

When common sense,
doesn't make any sense,
and decorum jumps over the fence.

Self-respect and dignity were friends,
but alas, they also have joined the trend,
and the result is a blend,
a fiendish cocktail,
of rancour and shamelessness.

The head is lost,
and reasoning is clouded by a fog,
of corruption and stupidity.

Please take a seat,
and enjoy the show:
you're welcome to the theater of the absurd!

CYNTHIA

Nobody is prettier than Cynthia,
I'm telling you that.
She's not fat,
she's tall,
as lovely as a doll.
She can cook, can sing,
she can even play strings.

Her breasts are like ripe oranges,
and I pluck them with care.
She's always there,
she cares, and even shares,
loyal, even when I'm not there.

Switch off the lights and light some candles,
take a shower and play some good music,
'cos tonight, I'm doing my duty,
give it all to me, and I'll take you on a cruise ship.

Cynthia,
I love you like a child loves meat pie,
promise me you will never leave my side.

WHICH WAY?

I've got to hustle for my pay,
to make a better day,
every night, every day,
I'm looking for a better way,
to get away,
from the misery and the gloomy days.

If any way is a way,
then I can go any way,
to the brighter day.
I just know,
I can't go on living this way.

On the streets everyday,
whether sunny or rainy day,
I just have to make a better pay,
get my bread,
and escape the dread,
of a lousy pay.

They say crime never pays,
but the criminals are living large this days.
Does it matter whether by hook or crook?
You just have to get there,
nobody's concerned which way you took?

ASUU AND NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES

Thank Father In Heaven, that ASUU has finally decided to call off its four month old strike...ehw!
Having got some of what they agitated for, I think it's time for ASUU to also take a critical look inward, and find where their shoe pinches.
As a student of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, I find it sad to say that since we resumed to the school after the strike, I have not received a single lecture. I am sure it is almost the same scenario in many universities across the nation.
ASUU has been given their due,and I think it is time that we(Nigerian students) are also given our due, which is quality and qualitative education.
That is all we ask for,unless........................................we are also going on strike!
