CHANGING A NEW LEAF


Changing a new leaf, is what we say anytime we are trying to change something about our behavior, character, actions…………..or basically anything in our lives.

Most times we find ourselves saying this repeatedly. I mean, let’s say you said that ‘I will never do so and so thing again in my life…..’ last year and now we’re saying the same thing again this year. That’s like going back to one’s vomit.

But a wise man, indeed once said that, No matter how many times one falls, a person is not defeated until he/she refuses to stand up again.

The reason I’m saying this is because it has happened to me. If I should be entirely truthful, it has happened to me a lot of times!

I guess the point is that we have been immunized by grace, and we are always mercifully given second chances. But I’ve also learnt that one should never take that grace for granted. After all, the Holy Book says that one cannot continually be in sin and ask for bountiful grace.

This life is a journey, and it is granted that it wouldn’t always be smooth sailing. If you think otherwise, I dare say that’s wishful thinking.

There are lessons, everywhere on the trail of life, to be learnt. The good thing is to learn those lessons and move on.

Recently, one of my secondary school friends (I graduated over six years ago), asked me if I had changed. I actually found that question amusing because I take it for granted that any human being will definitely undergo changes in the space of six years. The truth is that there is no stagnancy in life and one must move, whether backwards or forwards, it depends on the individual. Or isn’t it said that, Change is the only thing constant in life?

Conclusively, what I’m saying is that almost all of us are at a point of change right now in our lives. I am!

It is possible to get up and shine if you are on the floor. No matter what the issue is, it is not above you, and if you fail it’s only because you didn’t beg God and fight enough for yourself. Heaven favours those who help themselves, and the Lord honours the diligent.

I want to change a new leaf today, and I want us to do it together, because they say ‘the more the merrier,’ and besides we need to encourage ourselves.

It is possible, and I believe that we can do it. We shall overcome!
